Understanding Hoarding
Hoarding disorder is a recognised mental health condition that affects an estimated 2–5% of the population. It involves the persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions, regardless of their actual value, and can lead to severely cluttered living conditions that affect the safety, health, and wellbeing of those involved.
At Hoarding Service, we never rush, shame, or judge. Our trained team understands the complex emotions involved in hoarding disorder, including links to hoarding and ADHD, hoarding and autism, trauma, anxiety, and depression. We work at your pace, with your full involvement throughout.
Whether the property is your own home, a family member's, or a tenanted property requiring clearance, we bring empathy, professionalism, and efficiency to every job we undertake.
Every clearance begins with a sensitive assessment and honest conversation.

Mental Health & Hoarding
It is vital to understand that hoarding disorder is classified as a distinct mental health condition by the World Health Organisation. People with hoarding disorder experience genuine distress at the thought of discarding items, and the accumulation of belongings is often linked to deeper psychological issues such as anxiety, depression, OCD, grief, trauma — and in many cases, hoarding and ADHD or hoarding and autism spectrum conditions.
Hoarding addiction — as some describe the compulsive acquiring of items — can be incredibly isolating. People may feel shame, embarrassment, and a deep reluctance to let others into their home. That is why our team approaches every situation with sensitivity, patience, and without any form of judgement.
We work in close liaison with social services, mental health professionals, and housing associations where appropriate, always with the individual's consent and wellbeing as our guiding principle.

Common Questions
Giving Back
When we clear a property, usable items are donated rather than sent to landfill. We are proud to support these organisations with donations from our clearances — and to work alongside specialist hoarding and mental health charities to provide the best possible support for our clients.
Donations subject to item condition and local shop availability. We also support local charities and community groups in the clearance area.
